The Day 1 livestream for this weekend's Pokémon Japan Championships tournament has revealed a large batch of cards and products from the recently announced upcoming 30th Celebration expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. 30th Celebration is the first Pokémon TCG set to receive a simultaneous global release, coming out worldwide on September 16th.

The Pokémon Company International today has announced a new expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, 30th Celebration. As the name suggests, this is a commemorative expansion in the tradition of previous anniversary sets such as Celebrations and Generations. In a first for the game, 30th Celebration will release simultaneously worldwide, including in Japan, on September 16th.

The big Pokémon 30th anniversary event scheduled for South Korea is the Pokémon Mega Festa, a title which encompasses several different celebrations including themed areas, merchandise, athletic events, and tie-ins with Pokémon GO. One of the introductory events for Mega Festa’s opening day, May 1st, was a Pokémon GO stamp rally with a Pokémon TCG card as the completion prize. The event has been suddenly cancelled due to large crowds flooding into the Pokémon Secret Forest, in Seoul Forest Park in the Seongdong District of Seoul.

Police in Vancouver, Canada, have arrested three teenage boys in connection with a violent Pokémon card robbery that occurred the night of Tuesday, April 22nd. Police say the victim met up with the teens shortly after 8 PM, after agreeing to the sale via Facebook Marketplace. The boys then allegedly used bear-spray on the seller and robbed him of the cards. The suspects fled the scene, and only one of the cards has been recovered.

Fans have today received their first official look at cards from the Abyss Eye expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which will be released in Japan on May 22nd. This set is based on the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and features Mega Darkrai as the central Pokémon. Also revealed today were cards from the newest Pokémon Card Gym Promo packs, coming out on May 1st, and a special promotional Magikarp card that will be distributed in Korea in May as part of the Mega Festa event celebrating the franchise's 30th Anniversary.

German customs catches man attempting to smuggle 900 boxes of Pokémon TCG cards in from Switzerland

On April 2nd, the Singen customs office issued a statement regarding an incident at the Germany-Switzerland border that took place last week. A 33-year-old Swiss man attempted to smuggle 900 boxes of Pokémon Trading Card Game cards, worth €6,900 (approximately $USD 7,950), into Germany through the Bühl border checkpoint.

One of many celebrations for the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, a light show will be projected on the side of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1, based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) has announced today that they will be acquiring Excell Brands, one of the largest distributors of trading card game products in the US. Excell Brands has been working with TPCi for several decades, and functions as a distributor for all the major trading card game brands, including Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and One Piece.
