Third blog's the charm?

Unlike my other two blogs, this one is more a depository for ideas that I may or may not expand and write about.

Starting things off with an idea @Greninjaman @InfiniteBakuphoon, @prog rocker and I were all talking about today:

FF 12-like Pokemon Pure Fantasy Adventure (no title just yet--I'm only brainstorming at this point)

What stays from FF 12:

--evil empire (and the taking down thereof)
--vast world
--vast bestiary and things to find

What is different:

--different plot
--Sensational Six play the roles (with different classes and backstories)

Ash and Serena=Vaan and Penelo counterparts. Ash simply wants to go and see the world, never mind the evil empire (MUCH more dangerous Team Rocket counterpart) is afoot. Serena goes with him for support and wanting to see all the world has to offer.

Ash wields a mageblade (with a magebow if swordplay is not possible); Serena wields rapiers (and learns archery from Brock during the adventure, so she too has a backup when swordplay is not possible.

Brock and Misty=Balthier and Fran counterparts (Pewter counterpart and Cerulean counterpart have already been obliterated, and Brock and Misty joined up while fleeing into the mountains, performing as musicians, storytellers, and dancers ever since. It turns out Pewter counterpart was obliterated because Brock has a gift of singing magic, which the empire would want; and Cerulean counterpart was obliterated because royal family refused to give up Water elemental sapphire.

Brock can either wield a bow, or use his instruments or his voice to cast magic. Misty wields twin blades as a bladedancer (she can also play magic on an enchanted fiddle)

Dawn and May=Ashe and Basch counterparts. Dawn recently ascended the throne, with May as her lady. Her kingdom is one that has not yet fallen to the Rockets, but Dawn is a wise ruler like her mother, and coordinated all the competing Rocket resistance movements under one banner, moving the combined resistance force to an out of the way town. The others meet up with May and Dawn there, and the real adventure to liberate the fantastic Pokeworld begins.

As an illusionist, May wields a scepter, and Dawn is a magic knight (wielding her mother's sword and cosmic, light, water, and ice magic)

Keep in mind this idea is very much in progress, and may not get expanded. But if I do go ahead with this idea, all the worldbuilding and ideas will be kept here.

One thing that makes sense would be to have variety within the rockets/evil empire. Much like in the one in FF12, there were swordsmen, archers, Mages, and those that use guns.

Possible Legends+Conquest martial arts fantasy idea (A Wonderful Journey Through the Martial World)

Basic plot as of now:

In an ancient Pokeworld far from the one we know, a young hero known as Red Phoenix takes it upon himself to master every noble martial art in the martial world, in hopes he can meet Arceus. Over the course of his journey, he makes new friends, clashes with all manner of foes, sees all the beautiful and wondrous things that the martial world has to offer, and ultimately gets caught up in a clash between two siblings for the fate of Arceus!

Possible SV Fantasy Ideas (no titles, just exploring based on what we know of SV thus far)

Idea A:

In a fantastic Pokemon world, stories are told of a rainbow crystal somewhere in the world, granted by Ho'oh. The crystal could grant any elemental power, even granting Pokemon and humans alike powers no one in the land had seen before.

But in their never ending battle with each other, no one expected Armarouge and Ceruledge to shatter the crystal into hundreds of shards. The shards then scattered across the land, and new tale was told--if the shards were reunited back into one when the world needed them the most, the land would enter a never ending golden age.

A thousand years have passed since then, and in the present, a mage apprentice named Juliana wonders if the tale of Armarouge, Ceruledge, and the Phoenix Crystal is true. After rallying a few companions, Juliana embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, unaware that the tale is truer than she thinks. On top of that, there are many different factions all wanting the shards of the Phoenix Crystal for one reason or another--will Juliana and her companions re-assemble the Phoenix Crystal, and see if the hopeful tale of paradise is true?

Idea B:

In the fantastic Pokeworld of Rendin, legends are told about millions of artifacts scattered across the land as Armarouge and Ceruledge chased each other across the land. Mages lucky enough to find just one of these artifacts will find their magic power boosted to untold levels, and even unlocking spells no one else has ever seen before. But are the tales of Armarouge and Ceruledge true, or a minstrel's fanciful invention?

One mage apprentice, Juliana of the Aran Hall of Mages decided to find out--and if any of the many treasures in the story were real.

After befriending a traveling minstrel and his companions, Juliana set out on the quest of a lifetime, and possibly meeting Armarouge face to face.

Alongside the minstrel Brock, the battlemage Ash, the magic knight Misty, the runeblade Serena, the ranger May, and the cleric Dawn, Juliana will meet many fantastic creatures, Legendary Pokemon, and other powerful allies, and equally powerful foes all seeking out the treasures. What wonders and terrors await this young mage and her new friends, and is the legend that inspired her journey true?

Pirate Hunters Idea (aka, "One Piece in reverse")

--Magical fruits do appear in this world, but these fruits are divine, not devilish.

The Ash in this nautical Pokeworld comes from a family of pirate hunters. After his father Taran disappeared chasing down the notorious pirate Hawkeye, Ash took it upon himself to bring as many pirates to justice as he could, in hopes of finding Hawkeye and possibly Taran. After assembling a crew of the best and brightest sailors he could find, Ash (now imbued with the fiery blessing of the Phoenix Angel) and his ship, the Phoenix, embarked on the adventure of a lifetime.

Idea still very much in progress...

Magical Pokemon Journey/Magical Performance Rework v. 3.0 (exploring how this idea can work)

In a Pokeworld not unlike what we know, the hottest and most popular form of entertainment is Pokillusion, a kind of stage spectacle that is described as part circus, part stage play, part magic show, and part athletic showcase. Those that participate in Pokillusion are known as Illusionists.

While a Pokillusion show doesn't have to tell a story (and many of them don't), some Pokillusion performers and troupes do tell stories in their shows. Unlike a stage play or musical, dialogue is not typically used to move the story along, and singing is fairly rare--the troupe relies on their skills in instrumental music, dancing, athletics, acrobatics, magic, and more to drive the story (if there is one) along. Those that see a Pokillusion show say you won't soon forget it.

It is a tradition for every illusionist to have an Eevee or Eeveelution partner, or as a member of that illusionist's team. Receiving an Eeveelution partner or team member is a milestone in an illusionist's career, and is usually the signal that a trainee is now a full illusionist.

--Ash's partner is a Jolteon named Storm, in addition to his faithful Pikachu, Tintri.

--Misty's partner is a Vaporeon named Ariel, in addition to the other Water types on her team.

--Brock's partner is a Leafeon named Willow, in addition to his two Ninetales Hinata and Yuki, his Pichu Tarina, and his faithful Dusk Lycanoc Rocky.

--Serena's partner is a Sylveon named Bijou, in addition to her faithful Braxien Krystal.

--May's partner is a Glaceon named Neva, in addition to her Beautifly Niji

--Dawn's partner is an Espeon named Raya, in addition to her faithful Piplup Kori

Our story follows the Sensational Six (Ash-Misty-Brock-Serena-May-Dawn) as they travel across the Pokeworld, and navigate the ups and downs of performing Pokillusion, both on their own, and as a group. What wonders, terrors, surprises and triumphs await them?

Pokemon Magical Warrior/Magical Battle/Super Sentai-ish Idea (inspired by Pokemon ReBURST)

What stays from the inspiration:

--the ability to become a Pokemon inspired warrior (or in Ash's case, a mix of Moltres and Pikachu because of his fiery spirit and love for Tintri granting him thunder abilities
--Jewels are still used to transform, but what is in them is elemental energy from a Pokemon crystalized into a jewel. It is possible (although rare) for someone to draw on two or more elementals based on multiple Pokemon, but the resulting outfit will be based on the innate Pokemon (Moltres, in Ash's case)
--The Sensational Six become warriors based on their Six Spirit incarnations
--There are tournaments for the transformed warriors--the medallions work akin to Badges

My ideas (from the inspiration and elsewhere)

--Mega Evolution Heart Songs are used to activate the Burst power (not sure what it would be named in my version yet). Transformed users also have access to the Swanna Song as a last ditch super move (at the cost of draining the user's energy and rendering them unable to fight for a while
--The transformation is not usually painful--it is a relaxing and empowering transformation to those who use the power for good. It IS painful if you abuse the Burst power for evil, however.
--Ash does not fight right away--he mainly watches Serena (nee Golden Delphox) fight the bad guys for a while until she runs into trouble. In desperation, she heaves a ruby in Ash's direction, which Ash catches. Seeing Serena in danger spurs him to use his Heart Song-- Jao wiisha nes chiel com yutuul...--becoming Ruby Phoenix for the first time.
--Ash and Serena work together to drive off the evil team (who would be all new)

Honestly, all of these ideas seem a bit overly complex ideas in my eyes. Of course, I know why that is: I am not experienced enough to make these kinds of ideas like you can.

@Greninjaman

The secret is just to watch, play, read, and otherwise consume and create as much as you can. Once you know what kinds of tropes you want to write and enjoy reading about, it gets easier. Of course, it is good to challenge yourself by looking at the not-so-great stuff, the just okay stuff, and genres outside your preferences too.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 25th Anniversary/Pokemon Legends Idea

It should have never happened...a martial artist known as Full Moon Chaser managed to overthrow the Emperor of Waku, and proclaim himself ruler. Overnight, the people of Waku groaned under the Dark Moon Sect's high taxes and harsh laws.

Yet for every one that cheered Full Moon Chaser as the false Emperor, many more still cling to a legend of hope--that when Waku needs them most, six divine warriors known as the Six Spirits will awaken, and restore the true Emperor and Empress to the throne, ushering in a neverending age of peace.

But what none of the people realize is that Arceus has heard His people cry from heaven, and is guiding six young heroes to their destiny as the Six Spirits in the legend. But for Satoshi, Kasumi, Takeshi, Serena, Haruka, and Hikari--six best friends with a bond that can't be broken--they will endure any trial and go to any lengths to see Waku set free from the Dark Moon Sect. The way to free their homeland from the clutches of evil may be long, but for Satoshi and the others, all that matters is to see the Dark Moon Sect driven out, and peace restored to their homeland...

Noble Phantom Jewel Thieves Tabletop RPG Idea (inspired by Phantom Thief Pokemon 7 and a little of Persona 5)

"Jewels of Fate" is a Pokeworld tabletop RPG that puts characters in the roles of noble thieves trying to take back hundreds of magical jewels from known criminals and sinister organizations. The system is very flexible, allowing Spymasters (the in universe term for the game master or dungeon master) to play a straight modern day game, a modern day game with some magic, or even a futuristic sci-fantasy game.

The system is also unique for giving characters two classes in the "By Day/By Night" system--in designing their characters, players are told to give their characters a "By Day" occupation (which helps determine skills), and a thieves role "By Night" (which determines their main skills as a White Hat (noble thieves that serve as modern day Robin Hood figures)

A character's stats are divided up into Power (physical strength) Agility (how quickly one can move, dodge, and perform ranged attacks and acrobatics) Knowledge (how good they are with technology--analyzing, hacking, modding, building things, and fixing things, to name some examples), Resolve (how well a character holds up to attacks), Spirit (how attuned they are to the mystical and spiritual realms--how magic is explained in the world. If a Spymaster chooses not to use magic in their game, Spirit is used as a much more powerful Sense Deception type of skill), and Honor (how likely someone will listen to you and trust you) Characters are known by their real name or their codename, depending on the type of game the Spymaster wishes to run.

Individual adventures are known as jobs (usually named 'The (name of jewel here) Job', while campaigns are known as missions (and typically named "Mission: (name of jewel)" There are hundreds of thousands of officially named jewels, and fans have come up with their own names for jewels, so there are plenty of official and third party jobs and missions.

The group has an active game going with Gloria as their Spymistress, set in a modern magitek setting. While the group mainly plays the episodic jobs, they have ran a few of the missions before. Their characters are known by codenames, since they have agreed their real names are not important.

The members of the Jeweled Gang (what the group has named the mercenary band their characters are part of) are:

Ash: Ruby, Movie Star By Day, Martial Master By Night (a fighter type class that can fight unarmed or armed)
Misty: Sapphire, Game Maker By Day, Glitch Hunter By Night (her character is the tech geek of the group, but can use video game inspired skills if she needs to fight)
Brock: Emerald, Pop Star By Day, Arrow-sniper By Night (his character can perform magical music, or use elemental and utility arrows)
Serena: Topaz, Scientist By Day, Medic By Night (the healer character who can also fight with magic, magical herbs, and potions, if needed)
May: Amber, Performer by Day, Illusionist By Night (a type of mage that uses magician's tricks to damage and confound enemies)
Dawn: Pearl, Researcher By Day, Mystic By Night (a type of mage that draws on the spiritual and mystical realms to attack and heal--in more realistic games, this character would be a Ghost Hunter By Night)

I may also take the Persona 5 approach and cast the Sensational Six as actual noble jewel thieves...

Noble Phantom Jewel Thieves Tabletop RPG Idea, Development (inspired by Phantom Thief Pokemon 7 and a little of Persona 5)

Across the museums of the Pokeworld are rare and fabulous treasures for all to marvel, appreciate, and study. But when a wave of jewel thefts occurs across the Pokeworld that is traced back to the evil Team Onyx, a group of six best friends take it upon themselves to become noble phantom thieves--and take back these priceless treasures! Using their collective abilities and a TCG card of their respective Noble Spirit as their calling cards, these six companions begin a monumental quest across the nine regions of the Pokeworld, alongside their contact in the noble organization LIBRA, codenamed Diamond.

Actors by day, the group conducts their missions at night, once all the performances for the day are over. A mission follows the same structure:

Once the jewel the group is targeting is located, the group takes a night to do some recon around the area and locate their target, with one member of the group leaving a calling card (a TCG card of their Noble Spirit) in a place where it will be found to confuse the target, as well as warn them that the Jeweled Gang will come to that place. After planning the heist, the group makes their move to take back the jewel the next night. In case the jewel can't be recovered on the first attempt, the group will revise their heist plan and try again if it is safe to do so (but the group is skilled enough with their own abilities and their Pokemon to usually get their target on the first try) In the event it is not safe for the gang to get their target, or they need help, LIBRA operatives will finish the job. Police forces are aware that LIBRA and the Jeweled Gang are white hats (thieves that steal for a noble cause), and know not to arrest them.

--Ash, codenamed Ruby, is the leader of the Jeweled Gang, using his abilities as an acrobat and swordsman to confound any foe. He is never without his faithful Pikachu Tintri, who can scope out places humans can't go, and short out cameras and other devices. His calling card is Moltres the Dazzling Flame from the Brilliant Stars set.

--Misty, codenamed Sapphire, is the tech geek of the Jeweled Gang, being able to take devices apart, hack into any device, and put them back together--and no password is safe from her flowing fountain of ideas! She is never without her Primarina Mele, who can charm foes with her beautiful song, buying her master time to hack into her target. Mele can combine her song with Brock's musical ability to make the charm spell even more powerful--and gain water or ice elemental power. If Misty nee Sapphire does need to fight, she wields a pair of twin swords, or can pin a target to the closest flat surface with a volley of shuriken-like crystals. Her calling card is Gyarados the Storm of Fury from the Rebel Clash set.

--Brock, codenamed Emerald, steals audience's hearts with beautiful songs by day, then uses that same song to steal back jewels from evil by night. He is also a master archer with a massive arsenal of elemental, support, and utility arrows for any situation. As Emerald, he can use his voice and/or an instrument to sing magic, which can damage foes or heal his allies and innocents. If using his bow is not feasible or possible, he keeps a sword on hand for melee scenarios. He is never without his faithful Dusk Lycanroc Rocky, who can sniff out innocents, clues, and the target. His calling card is Raikou the Voice of Thunder from the Shining Legends set.

--Serena, codenamed Goldie, can usually get crowds laughing with her comic abilities, but evil won't be laughing when they try to catch her! In keeping with her Delphox motif as a Jeweled Gang member, her gold musketeer hat she wears as Goldie even has Delphox ears on it--often confusing foes into thinking she is a real Delphox. She is never without her faithful Braixen Krystal, who can lend her psychic powers to help her master piece together the crime, or dazzle foes with golden light. If she needs to fight, Serena will typically wield a rapier. Her calling card is Delphox the Magical Light from the Lost Origin set.

--May, codenamed Jade, wows audiences with her dancing and acrobatic ability by day, and pummel evil in a beautiful dance by night. Even though her Jewel Thief costume may not look very thief like, bad guys won't soon forget her colorful and quick attack! She is never without her faithful Beautifly Niji, who can paralyze foes with Stun Spore, put them to sleep with Sleep Powder, or confound them with a beautiful Silver Wind, Energy Ball, or Quiver Dance. When May does need to fight, she uses a ribbon--which also functions like a whip. Her calling card is Beautifly the Colors of Spring from the Lost Origin set.

--Dawn, codenamed Pearl, usually plays the softspoken mystic heroes onstage. But by night, her knowledge of Pokemon and Pokeworld lore comes in handy--usually to unmask evil's plot! Her Jeweled Gang outfit has led some to confuse her for a dancer, but this is no dance that evil will ever forget! She is never without her faithful Piplup Kori, who can confound foes with a veil of bubbles, or create a slippery floor with Ice Beam. Dawn can usually fight unarmed, or she can use whatever weapon or implement is close at hand, making her a versatile fighter. Her calling card is Deerling the Flower Princess from the Cosmic Eclipse set.

Noble Phantom Jewel Thieves Tabletop RPG Idea, Development: LIBRA and Diamond (inspired by Phantom Thief Pokemon 7 and a little of Persona 5)

The group operate as phantom thieves under the organization LIBRA, who is dedicated to keeping evil at bay and delivering justice, working with law enforcement to track down the very worst criminals. Each group under LIBRA's command is under the leadership of a Guardian, which is what Diamond is to our heroes.

Diamond (her real name is not important to the series) serves as the connection to LIBRA for our heroes. She will brief them on their target, a little about the Onyx operative they are attempting to recover a jewel from, known security in their mansions and palaces, and things of that nature. Should the group run into trouble, she can send LIBRA operatives to help complete the mission, or complete the mission after they escape.

A technical genius, Misty admires Diamond for just how quickly she can hack into Onyx databases, and how quickly she can crack even the toughest passwords and security codes. But Diamond is an equally capable warrior herself, having once fought off Team Onyx admin Jet with her martial arts ability. She is also a Pokemon trainer, with her faithful Espeon Garnet with her at all times.

Diamond cares deeply for every LIBRA agent in her care, and serves as a mentor to the Jeweled Gang, watching them grow from awkward first heist (that thankfully was still successful) into legendary thieves, and LIBRA's most capable band of white hats--thieves who steal for a noble purpose.

When she has a mission for our heroes, she will give:

--the petitioner, who rightfully owns the target
--the target--the jewel they need to steal
--the target's current location--where the group needs to go to steal the target
--a little about the Onyx operative they are stealing from--with the exception of the admins (Jet, Melan, Sardon, and Agate) and the boss of Team Onyx (Kuro), most Onyx operatives use a codename based on the meaning of their first name, or sometimes their surname.
--known security and lackeys in the location
--a suggested route to the target to form the basis of a heist plan

Once recon is done and a heist plan is in place, it is not set in stone--the group or Diamond can adjust the heist plan on the fly, or throw out the plan if the group needs to bail out, and let LIBRA finish the job. Luckily, the gang is good enough at what they do that they can get their target on the first try, and it is very rare that LIBRA has to step in.
