Volcanion ex, Iris's Fighting Spirit, and many other new Pokémon TCG cards revealed for upcoming Battle Partners expansion in Japan

Today's video on the Pokémon Trading Card Game's official Japanese YouTube channel has unveiled many new cards from the upcoming Battle Partners expansion. These cards will be released in Japan later this month on January 24th, 2025. Cards from this set will be released internationally on March 28th as part of the Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together expansion.

One of the new cards is a reprint of Super Potion, a card not seen since XY—Evolutions. I'm also seeing a new basis for strategies based on Burned with Magmortar and Volcanion ex. Magearna is pretty much a spiritual successor to Miltank from Sun & Moon—Crimson Invasion, which has been used in tandem with Welder on some Reshiram & Charizard-GX decks shortly before the rotation. N's Castle is going to make Mew VMAX return in spirit, since N's Zoroark ex can now retreat for free! Though I doubt there will be an N's Liepard card, since N was never seen with a Liepard.

Wailord is an interesting one! It just seeks to dish out as much damage as possible with its Hydro Pump attack, and it is the successor to Wailord from Sword & Shield—Vivid Voltage, which is already used often in the Gym Leader Challenge format. Not only that, it has 240 HP, breaking the HP record for 1-prize Pokémon of 220 HP that was previously set by another Wailord card, from Sun & Moon—Celestial Storm, and also held by yet another Wailord card from Sword & Shield—Crown Zenith. On top of all this, the new Wailord has a beautiful Illustration Rare variant, which was not showcased in the video, but on the expansion's page on the Japanese Pokémon Card Game website. That's enough to convince Gym Leader Challenge players to use the new Wailord. Even in the standard format, it goes well with Baxcalibur from Scarlet & Violet—Paldea Evolved.

Translations of all cards revealed can be found in the table below, and on Bulbapedia.
