Totally Awesome Pokémon in Area Zero?! - Pokémon Horizons Episode 80 Review - Traversing Into Area Zero

This week's episode of Pokémon Horizons is easily the best episode so far because there’s a shot where multiple Jumpluff appear. Okay, bias aside, this is a good episode because it shows off how fascinating Area Zero is. The only thing missing from making it amazing was the lack of Area Zero music. Damn it, give me that spectacular theme song; it’s such a waste to NOT use it for this episode. Also, I can definitely say that Scarlet players are eating well.

Other than that, this episode was pretty straightforward. The kids and Friede go into Area Zero and take in the sights as they find Briar and try to find the area where Entei was found. Coral and Sidian are tailing them as part of their mission. It’s pretty simplistic, but it told and showed so much. Roy got to fight a Sandy Shocks, and Coral encounters a Scream Tail. Pokémon Horizons has this weird issue where a Pokémon that should’ve been caught by one of the main characters doesn’t. Then again, the writers don’t really build a relationship with the kids and possible captures well enough. Like, Liko should’ve gotten an Amarouge, but she didn’t. Her third Pokémon ended up being Terapagos. Sandy Shocks could’ve easily been a great third Pokémon for Roy, but he only defeated it in battle and did not capture it. To be fair, these kids don’t carry extra Poké Balls with them. Despite that, what they didn’t do for Roy and the other kids, they did with Coral. She encountered a Scream Tail, bonded with it, and caught it by accident. I guess it’s fair that they gave her this as she was the only Explorers admin with only one Pokémon. It’s nice that she finally got her second. I think their dynamic is hilarious as they’re both very loud. Sidian is going to age twenty years putting up with them. She also calls it Onipurin (literally "Demon Jigglypuff"), as she has no idea that it is a Paradox Pokémon or what they are. The English dub has the perfect opportunity to name it ‘Bigglypuff’, or some other suitably punny name, when they get to this episode.

There were a few minor things that bothered me in this episode. First, there should've been more Paradox Pokémon present and not just three. Second, why is Briar sleeping with her earrings on? As a Violet player, I can’t help but to be a bit envious that there’s so much Scarlet content and none for Violet.

Overall, this was a fun episode that introduces Area Zero in anime form. I can’t wait for next week’s episode! Let’s just hope Gouging Fire is one of the Six Heroes and not a fake out like before. Let me know what you think about this episode!

Area Zero didn't really come off as dangerous enough, if you ask me. Given the fact that it's forbidden and restricted to normal people, you'd think they'd have been a little more apprehensive venturing into it. Instead there was way too much comedy and them just strolling around casually.
