TINA's Nuzlocke Series

With my training complete, i decide to once again set sail and explore the waters around Hokkaido. This time, i head west of Sapporo, to the city of Canalave. The moment i strike land there though, a wild Mr. Mime decides to block my path with its invisible walls, so i have no choice but to catch it and name it Pipo. This allows me to proceed through the town gates, where i run into Lucas's dad. He has an upgrade he wishes to install on my pokedex, so i just let him. I don't really care all that much though, so i proceed into Canalave proper. As Cynthia mentioned, this city's main attraction is the library; other than that it's just a giant port with some houses.

As i cross the bridge to get there though, i run into a friend: Frans is here. He wishes to battle me to see if i'm strong enough to take on the Canalave Gym; i've nothing better to do, so i might as well. He leads with Staraptor and i lead with Takeshi. He likes to set up Double Teams, making it hard for me to hit him with my rock blasts, but since he doesn't do anything else, i do manage to take him down. Next is Roserade, so i give this job to Melman. Psybeam does over half as he sets up Toxic Spikes, so another hit gets the kill. It's now time to face Heracross, for which i will switch to Babette. Fly gets the easy one-shot, meaning Frans now goes for his ace, Infernape. I send in Buis for this job, who promptly gets poisoned by the spikes. A Surf brings the big ape into the red though, and though i take half from a Brick Break combined with poison, i can follow it up with an Aqua Jet for the kill. Frans sends out his own Floatzel last, but Buis is not up for a mirror match, so i switch to Kovu. Kovu tanks a Swift easily and hits a Spark for the OHKO, granting me the victory.

To celebrate, i decide to do some relaxing fishing. I fish up a Magikarp, which i catch and name Ghoti. It is then that i realise that fishing is fucking boring, so i decide to go on a trip to Iron Island. On the island, i meet my old friend Riley, who gives me HM04 Strength before heading into the mines here to explore. I decide to head in after him for some exploration myself, see the interior of this historic site. In the depths of the mines, i actually encounter the rare Steelix, so i proceed to catch it and name it Haganehebi. I meet up with Riley again shortly after, but things immediately go wrong after that. A trainer's Graveler explodes on poor Melman, killing him from full health. Melman, you hadn't been with us for long, but we valued your contributions nontheless.

Fortunately, Vishnu, seeing my grief, decides to step up and evolve into Medicham to fully step into the role of resident Psychic type. Always nice to have considerate pokemon around. At the end of the mines, we run into two Galactic grunts, here to steal pokemon for their evil endeavours. So Riley and i beat the bastards up and they fuck off. As thanks for helping him out there, Riley gives me an egg. Normally i'd me super excited to see what's in there, but i'm still processing Melman's death, so i just head back to Canalave, give him a funeral and call it a day.

My current team:

Takeshi (Graveler) lv 37
Babette (Crobat) lv 38
Kovu (Luxray) lv 38
Vishnu (Medicham) lv 37
Buis (Floatzel) lv 38

Our team will be joined by our latest catch: Haganehebi the Steelix. He's already at a decent level, so we will just slap the Exp Share on him as we go through the gym. This is a steel gym, so nobody will be sitting this one out. The gym puzzle revolves around navigating a maze of elevators to reach the gym leader Byron. This isn't too difficult, so once i reach the guy, i challenge him to a battle. He leads with his Magneton and i lead with Takeshi, but he crits his Flash Cannon on turn one, killing my poor rock and not allowing him to earthquake in return. So i switch to Haganehebi, who gets the one-shot with Dig. Byron responds to this by sending out his own Steelix, but rather than going for a mirror match, i switch to Buis. Surf gets a clean one-shot, meaning Byron is down to his last mon: his Bastiodon. I opt to give this job to Vishnu, whose 4x effective Force Palm just brings it into berry range and paralyzes as it sets up an Iron Defense. I bring him to the red with my next move, but Byron then heals. He gets paralyzed again immediately though; i just keep battering away at him until i get my win.

As i step outside the gym, i find Frans there waiting for me, telling me to meet the professor in the library. I gotta bury my fallen soldier first though. Rest in peace, Takeshi. You did great in the early game, even if you started to fall off recently. Taking Takeshi's place as my resident Rock type will be Biden the Cranidos, though he will be taking the EXP Share from Haganehebi for now.

When i head into the library to talk to the professor, he tells me why he gathered me, Frans and Lucas here. He wants us to research the legendary pokemon of the lakes, to see why they do not evolve. I'm getting a sense of deja vu here. Anyway, we divide the tasks; i'm to head to Lake Valor in the southeast. However, just at that moment, we hear a giant explosion. Of course, it's Team Galactic again. Seriously, how are those guys not all in prison after the crap they pulled last time? What kind of imbeciles run this region? Guess it's once again up to a group of children to save the day.

When i arrive at the lake, i find that it has indeed been blown up again. I fight my way through all the grunts to reach commander Saturn, who tells me they already captured the legendary pokemon here. He then decides to fight me just to slow me down, so i have no choice but to fight back. He leads with Golbat and i lead with Kovu. One Spark takes care of the bat, and i switch to Vishnu for the Toxicroak. Confusion only just does over half and puts him into berry range, and his revenge does massive damage in return, so i have to switch. Babette comes in and finishes off the frog, so last up is Bronzor. This seems like a job for Buis, who Surfs the thing down in a few hits.

With that distraction dealt with, i rush over to Lake Verity to help out Lucas and the professor. I fight my way through all the grunts to reach Mars, who insinuates that me and Lucas are a couple. Ew no, i'm gay. Anyway, it's time to fight this bitch. She leads with Golbat and i lead with Kovu, who brings her to a sliver with a Spark. Another spark gets the kill, so we're now facing her Bronzor. This is a job i again give to Buis, who kills it in two surfs. Finally, we're facing off against her ace, Purugly. I switch to Vishnu for this; his Slash does a lot more than i expected, and my Force Palm only just misses out on the kill. So i opt to bring in Haganehebi on another Slash and get the kill with Dig.

However, Mars then tells me that this battle was just a distraction and that they've hauled off the legendary in the meantime. That means i have to quickly reach the third lake, up in the north, in order to stop Team Galactic from reforging the Red Chain. For now though, i'm calling it a day.

My current team:

Kovu (Luxray) lv 39
Haganehebi (Steelix) lv 37
Vishnu (Medicham) lv 38
Buis (Floatzel) lv 38
Babette (Crobat) lv 38
Biden (Cranidos) lv 24

Completely forgot that Steel is super effective against Rock. I'm an idiot. Takeshi did not need to die.

Time is not on our side, so i rush through the northern section of Mt. Coronet to the winter wonderland that is Route 216. There, a wild Sneasel blocks my path, so i'm forced to catch it and name it Nyaru. As i proceed north onto Route 217, i run into Maylene, the gym leader from Veilstone. She tells me she is also heading towards Snowpoint, and that she thinks using Fly is for the weak. As she heads on though, a blizzard picks up; hope she's smart and heads back before she freezes to death. I cannot wait for it to pass though; i have to brave the snowstorm.

I of course get hopelessly lost in the snow, but i do find HM07 Rock Climb just lying around. No point leaving that here to be swallowed up by the snow and forgotten. I also run into a lost little Snover, so i catch him and name him Yeto so we try and survive this snowstorm together. As i continue stumbling about blindly, Biden decides that now is the time to evolve into its final form, Rampardos, but he's still not strong enough to go off the Exp Share.

When the snow finally clears, i find myself in the Acuity Lakefront. I spot Frans standing atop a tall ledge, on the path to Lake Acuity. He tells me i'll need the badge from Snowpoint City to use Rock Climb, which is needed to get up there. He assures me that he can beat Team Galactic on his own, but i'm not so certain, so i catch Knor the Swinub and press on to Snowpoint. I'm pleased to find that Maylene also made it through the storm, but unfortunately her friend Suzuna refuses to just give me her badge even after i explain the situation. This girl either straight up does not care that Team Galactic is destroying the world, or she is in league with them. Either way, i fear i need a bit of training before i'm strong enough to take on her gym.

After i finish up my training, it's time to call it a day.

With my training done, it's time to take on Suzuna's gym. This is an ice gym, so Babette is sitting this one out. Instead, i'm bringing Ghoti the Magikarp, as death fodder. The gym puzzle here involves sliding across the ice to slam into and break snowballs. I manage this pretty quickly, and challenge Suzuna to a battle. She leads with Sneasel and i lead with Vishnu. Aerial Ace does about half to me, but i respond with a Force Palm for the OHKO. This prompts Suzuna to immediately go for her ace, Froslass, so i switch to Kovu. She decides to be annoying and set up a double team as i Bite her down to Sitrus Berry range. The Blizzard she uses on the next turn almost kills me though, and i do not succeed in hitting her, so it's time to switch. Buis comes in on a Blizzard miss, but gets hit into the yellow by a Shadow Ball as Crunch misses. This is going very very bad. She outspeeds everything on my team and can kill most of them. I opt to sack Ghoti to bring Haganehebi in. She misses her next Blizzard fortunately, as well as the one thereafter because i use Dig, but then Suzuna switches to her Abomasnow on a Dragonbreath. I opt to switch to Vishnu here, who tanks a Focus Blast before i heal her up again. The snowman's wood hammers keep taking me back to the red though, so the only thing i can do is keep healing and hope he dies from recoil before he crits. I get him down into healing range this way, and use Force Palm to get him into the yellow after Suzuna heals. It is also at this point that i notice he's out of Wood Hammer PP, so i can safely kill him. This brings Froslass back out, so i switch back to Haganehebi and heal Buis up. Blizzard brings me to the red combined with hail, but if my calculations are correct, she has only 1 PP left for the move now. That's the only move i'm afraid of, so if i can avoid a crit, all should be fine. My calculations proved not to be correct; she's out of PP for blizzard and only has not very effective moves now. These still deal massive damage though; my special defense isn't great. So i risk a crit to heal up Kovu and switch him in. I had overestimated Kovu's defensive capabilities though; he takes over half from a shadow ball. This was a very bad missplay. I'm gonna have to sacrifice someone now. So, it i with a heavy heart that i send in Buis. I use healing items to try and outstall her Shadow Ball PP, but one crit and i'm dead. I do eventually get a crit against me, but it's a crit Psychic, which i can tank. That psychic did lower my special defense though, as did the next. I haven't kept track of exactly how many Shadow Balls i've seen, but i decide that now is the time to risk it and assume he's used all of them. So i bring Vishnu out on a psychic and heal up, and i keep healing up to stall out her remaining psychic PP risk-free. Or so i thought. Turns out she has Shadow Balls left, and they bring Vishnu to the red from full health. Looks like i still have to dodge crits. When another Shadow Ball lowers Vishnu's special defense, it's clear that my luck has ran out, and someone has to die. I had previously decided that someone would be Buis, but i've changed my mind. It's Biden who's coming in. I continue heal-stalling with Biden, who to my surprise doesn't die to Shadow Ball. I actually manage to stall out all of Froslass's moves, so i heal everyone up as it pointlessly tries to double team past +6 evasion. Suzuna actually wastes a healing item as Froslass is struggling itself to death, but i do eventually win. Last is her Piloswine, so i switch in Buis and Surf it down to a sliver as it avalanches. The following Aqua Jet grants me a hard-earned victory.

At least that grueling battle showed me that Lady Luck is on my side. So it is with renewed confidence that i make my way up to Lake Acuity, only to find that i'm too late. Jupiter has already beaten Frans and taken the legendary pokemon. They've probably locked their base up tight, so there's nothing i can do. I just surf over the water in defeat, and catch Yeta the Snover. After that, i train for a while and then call it a day.

My current team:

Kovu (Luxray) lv 41
Haganehebi (Steelix) lv 41
Buis (Floatzel) lv 41
Babette (Crobat) lv 41
Biden (Rampardos) lv 40
Vishnu (Medicham) lv 41

Got extremely lucky there. If life was fair, i'd definitely have lost multiple pokemon, or maybe i would even have wiped.

Guess i should head to Veilstone to at least see if i can force my way into the Galactic headquarters. Outside, i find a grunt mumbling something about a key, but he runs off when he sees me. Looker then approaches me to tell me the grunt dropped a key; he thinks it opens the door in the galactic warehouse. So we head there and the key does indeed let us in. Guess there is hope to stop them after all. I barge my way through all the grunts and eventually stumble upon the key to their main building, which i proceed to storm. I even get to witness Cyrus giving a speech to his grunts about how he'll rid the world of emotions and strife. I know his means of doing so are basically the apocalypse, so i proceed further until i can corner him in his office. When i do, he starts ranting about his ideology and then challenges me to battle. He leads with Sneasel and i lead with Vishnu. Ice Punch does half to me, but my Force Palm straight up one-shots him in return. Next is Crobat, so i switch to Biden. He misses a Supersonic, allowing my Zen Headbutt to get him to low health. He bites the next turn though, flinching me. The next Supersonic does hit and causes me to hit myself, so i have no choice now but to switch. Haganehebi comes in on a Bite and uses Strength to... get him into healing range. We're now stuck in a chip war; i seem to be outdamaging him, but i do get into crit range before i can deal the final bit of damage. So i switch to Babette to have her finish off her cousin. Cyrus's last mon is Honchkrow; a job for Kovu. My first Spark brings it into berry range, and the second one kills.

After my win, Cyrus just gives me his Master Ball and tells me i can go and free the legendary lake pokemon. I feel this isn't the last of this, but the freedom of those pokemon is the most important thing right now so i press on. In the room where they're holding the trio, i find Saturn, who doesn't understand his boss's thinking (join the club) and thus tries to prevent me from releasing the pokemon. Guess i'll have to fight him too. He leads with his Golbat and i lead with Kovu. He poisons me with Poison Fang while i bring him to a sliver with a Spark. One turn later, he's dead and Saturn goes for his second mon, Bronzor. I opt to have Buis counter this one, and bring him to low health in a few surfs. I end up getting confused and falling into crit range though, so i switch to Haganehebi to finish it off with a not very effective Iron Tail. Lastbut not least is Toxicroak, so i go for Babette. Fly brings him to a sliver and activates his berry, and a second one gets the kill.

This victory allows me to free the legendary pokemon, but Saturn confirms that it's not over. Cyrus has reforged the Red Chain already, and is heading up Mount Coronet as we speak. Saturn and Charon play dumb about what he's doing up there, but i've seen this song and dance twice already so i know he's summoning a legendary mon. So i guess i should head up there to meet the challenge.

On my way though, things go wrong. I run into a Hiker whose Graveler explodes on poor Buis, killing him from full health. Rest in peace Buis, you did a great job for the immense amount of time you were with us. We have no time to mourn though; Cyrus is going to destroy the world. So i have to pick a replacement for Buis quickly. My choice ends up being Bluey the Shellos. For Bluey's training, i decide to head to the mountainside of Mt. Coronet, so that i can stop the training and rush to the top should bad things happen. I catch myself another Medicham here and nickname this one Shiva.

After some more training, i decide to call it a day.

My current team:

Vishnu (Medicham) lv 42
Babette (Crobat) lv 42
Biden (Rampardos) lv 42
Kovu (Luxray) lv 43
Haganehebi (Steelix) lv 43
Bluey (Shellos) lv 29

With my training done, i race upwards and barge through all the galactic grunts, hoping i'm still in time to stop Cyrus. At Spear Pillar, i fight through two last grunts and proceed on to Cyrus. Before i can reach him though, Mars and Jupiter confront me for a two-on-one. This is bad. I can take one of them easily, but i doubt i can face two of them at the same time. However, just as the battle is about to commence, Frans comes rushing in to join me in taking down the terrorists. I lead with Kovu, Frans leads with his Munchlax and the enemies both lead with a Bronzor. My Spark does over half to Jupiter's Bronzor, but the enemies manage to get both Reflect and Light Screen up as Munchlac screeches Mars's Bronzor down. The next turn i bring Jupiter's mon down to the red as they both target me with weak extrasensories and Munchlax screeches again. Really wish Frans would do something useful. Anyway, i then kill the Bronzor to bring out the Skuntank. Bluey is still damaged from previous fights and thus can't come in, so i switch to Biden. Biden gets poisoned by a poison jab though. Nevertheless, i hit a weak Ancientpower on Skuntank as Skuntank kills Munchlax and Bronzor hits me with a not very strong Gyro Ball. Frans brings out his Staraptor; intimidate is nice, but i have to switch. I opt to bring in Vishnu next as Frans kills the reaining Bronzor, bringing in Golbat. I opt for another switch into my Crobat as Frans does over half to the Golbat, but gets confused. I fly up into the sky as Frans kills Golbat and the enemies critically weaken Staraptor, then i land the fly on the incoming Purugly as they kill Frans's bird. Frans opts to use his Heracross next, so i fly again as both Heracross and Purugly get killed and Frans goes for his starter Infernape. The tur i land, Frans and i bring the big skunk to the red, but he hits Frans with a Smokescreen. I think about what to do here, as all options have risks, but in the end, i hit a weak Poison Fang as Frans hits through the accuracy drop and kills the foe. That means only Jupiter's Golbat is left, for which i switch to Haganehebi. He does massive damage to Infernape but cannot really hurt Haganehebi, so i can safely beat him up alongside Infernape and later Floatzel.

After the fight, Frans heals up my mons, but it doesn't matter as we're too late. While we were fighting, Cyrus completed his preparations, so he now starts summoning both Dialga and Palkia with his red chain. Like the last two times, the lake guardians show up in an attempt to stop this nonsense, but they are not powerful enough to stop two pokemon at once. Guess this is it. I should not have spent that long training Bluey up. Now we've lost, and the world as we know it is coming to an end.

However, just as i'm about to despair, a strange hole opens near Cyrus and a satanic-looking creature emerges to drag the guy to the underworld. This also calms down Dialga and Palkia, who return to their own dimensions. This is also the moment when Cynthia finally shows up; girl, you're the champion of the region and you couldn't even bother to arrive on time to stop the evil team from trying to destroy the world. Anyway, she explains to me that this monster was Giratina, who lives in a world parallel to our own. It created this tear in the fabric of reality because what Cyrus was doing posed a threat to his universe too. We see the three lake guardians enter the hole, so we decide to follow suit and investigate what we can find on the other side.

We find ourselves in a strange landscape of floating platforms where gravity does not work as it normally does. So i set out to explore this strange plane, by which i absolutely do not mean i got hopelessly lost. Nope, absolutely not. As i'm exploring though, i run into Cyrus, who tells me that this world is exactly like the world he desired to create back home. After we part ways again, i proceed to try and find the way back- i mean, explore this world. Yeah, that's what i meant. I'm not lost at all. The lake guardians actually help me solve some puzzles, and eventually we catch up to Cyrus again. He has decided to stay in this world, and now sees me and Cynthia as threats to his utopia for some reason. So he challenges me to another battle. He leads with his Houndoom, and i lead with my newest teammate, Bluey, who is now a Gastrodon. He burns me, but that doesn't stop Surf from bringing him to the red. Cyrus opts to waste a healing item here as i immediately bring him back down, but then he hits a hard Dark Pulse before i can deal the killing blow. Bluey is now out of commission for the rest of the fight, so as Gyarados comes in, i send out Bluey. Intimidate allows me to tank an Earthquake, though a crit would have killed. In return, i hit a Spark that brings him to a sliver and paralyzes him; it would have been a kill if not for his Intimidate. After i finish him off, it's time to face Weavile; a job for Vishnu. Fake out stops me from moving turn 1, but on turn 2, he brings me to low health as i kill him with a Force Palm. This brings in Honchkrow, so i go for Biden. However, his night slash gets the crit, killing Biden from full health before he can do anything. Rest in peace Biden; you were not as good as i had hoped, but you did your best. This is bad. Everyone is either severely injured or weak to one of his moves. In the end, i opt to send Kovu back out and heal him up. Hi Heat Wave burns me though, so i use a full restore again immediately. The next one doesn't burn, so i can Spark the bird down to healing range. Cyrus wastes another item, but i manage to take the bird down thereafter. Last is his Crobat, but instead of going for my own, i send out Haganehebi.

After the battle, we manage to convince Cyrus that we are not a threat to his perfect world, so he lets us go on. Not long after, i set my eyes on the master of this realm and find myself in a battle with Satan himself. Without thinking, i throw my Master Ball at the thing so that it won't eat me. After this, a portal appears where Giratina was, that will lead us back to Hokkaido as we know it. We say our goodbyes to Cyrus; good thing he will never bother us again. Then Cynthia and i head through the portal back home.

We find ourselves at the secret fourth lake of Hokkaido: the Sendoff Spring. I check my poke balls to see if it was all some sort of dream, and i find that i do indeed have Satan himself in one of my poke balls. But he's ugly so i release him immediately. This serene lake seems the perfect place to give Biden the funeral he deserves. Rest in peace, my man. Return to the fossilized state from which you came. After running from a wild Graveler here, it's time to call it a day.

I didn't heal before the admin battle because i thought i'd get healed before the battle, but apparently it was after.

The new addition to my team will be Sunasame the Gible. We won't have to worry about Cyrus anymore, so Sunasame can just hold the Exp Share as we make our way to the 8th and final gym. As i progress through the seaside Route 222, i run into a wild Electabuzz, so i grab my chance and catch the guy, naming him Buzz. As i proceed through the route, my new recruit actually evolves into Gabite, though he will still not see battle in the gym.

When i enter Sunyshore city, i run into my old pal Flint of the Elite Four. He tells me Volkner's sulking in the lighthouse again because he's too strong for all the challengers, so i should beat the crap out of him to reinvigorate his love for battle. Before i do so though, i head toward the coastline in order to do some fishing. After i've fished up Ouo the Remoraid, i run into Jasmine, the gym leader from Olivine for whom i got the medicine to heal the ampharos. She's here on vacation, and tells me that she has something she'd like to give me as thanks for the help back then, but first i'll have to get my 8th badge.

So i make my way across the city's solar panel bridges and admire the Munchlax rock, then i head up to the lighthouse to find Volkner. I get him to go back to his gym, then i use the binoculars here to glance at the Pokemon League building in the distance. It's an amazing piece of architecture, but i intend to see it from up close soon, so i head back down to challenge the gym. This is an electric gym, so Babette will be sitting this one out. Instead, i'm bringing Brock the Geodude, as death fodder. However, things go wrong against the gym trainers. When facing off against an Electabuzz, Vishnu gets hit by a critical hit Thunderbolt, which one-shots herfrom full health. Vishnu was with us for a very long time, and served as the team's strongest offensive powerhouse. She will be dearly missed.

We will be letting Yeto the Snover onto the team, though his training will not commence until after we have beaten the gym. So we head back in and make our way to Volkner to challenge him. He leads with Jolteon and i lead with Haganehebi. Dig is a 2HKO, but he can barely hurt me so it doesn't matter. Up next is Raichu, for which i'm switching in Bluey. Focus Blast does massive damage to me though, and i fail to hit with Mud Bomb. His next Focus Miss misses though and brings him over half, and his next move hits but doesn't crit, allowing me to take him out. Next up, we're facing Electivire, so i bring Kovu out for an intimidate. I then opt to sacrifice Brock to get Kovu out again for another intimidate. His fire punches now do next to nothing, so i can easily outdamage him with Crunch. I manage to bring him down to healing range, but he burns me afterward and brings me to the red, so i have to heal too. No matter; a few more crunches get the win. Lastly, we're facing Volkner's own Luxray, but rather than make this a mirror match, i switch in Haganehebi. A Fire Fang weakened by Rivalry does next to nothing, and two Digs take him out.

I now have all eight badges, but it's very obvious i need to get some training in before i undertake the journey to the Pokemon League. So i train for a while, then i call it a day.

When Sunasame finally evolves into the beast that is Garchomp, i decide it's time to resume my journey. I head north from Sunyshore, where Jasmine finally gives me my gift for beating Volkner: HM07 Waterfall. I'll apparently need it at the end of the route to progress into Victory Road. So i slap that move on Bluey and progress onto Route 223, but this route is apparently home to some vicious Tentacruel. One of them took offense to my presence and attacked me, so i had no choice but to catch it and name it Hentai. I swim on through this naval route until i reach te waterfall leading up to Victory Road. I'm a bit scared to try and climb it, so before i do so, i relax my nerves through some fishing. I catch a Magikarp and name him Troep. I then make my way up the waterfall, but before i head into the cave, i decide to call it a day.

Time to head up the waterfall and make my way through the Road of Victory. Along the way, i catch myself one last pokemon before i challenge the pokemon league: A Magneton which i nickname Polar. After this, i stumble around in this complex maze for some time, but eventually i do find the other exit, leading me to the pokemon league building i glanced from Sunyshore. I head in to face this one last challenge, but before i can head through the doors and take on the elite four, Frans comes running in to challenge me to one final battle, to see if we're both ready for this challenge. He leads with his Staraptor and i lead with Kovu. He immediately u-turns out though, but my Spark crits on the incoming Snorlax. I opt to switch Babette in on an Earthquake, but my poison fang fails to finish it before he rests. I then switch to Sunasame and hit a few Rock Smashes for the defense drops, but one of them ends up critting and taking out the Snorlax before he wakes up. Up next is Floatzel, so Kovu comes back out. I easily tank a Crunch and retaliate with a Spark for the OHKO. Staraptor comes back, but Kovu isn't in any condition to fight an un-intimidated staraptor, so i switch to Sunasame. My Dragon Claw deals just less than half and his Close Combat brings me into crit range, but because i outspeed, i abuse the defense drop to get the kill. At least, that's what i thought would happen. I actually leave him with a sliver, but thankfully, no crit happens and my mistake goes unpunished. I simply kill him the next turn. Fore the Heracross that comes after, i switch to Babette and get the kill with a single Fly. Second last is his ace, Infernape. This job goes to Bluey, who skillfully dodges a Focus Blast and retaliates with a Surf for the OHKO. Last but not least is Roserade; Babette kills the thing with a single Fly.

Losing to me made Frans see that he was not strong enough to take on the league, so he resolves to become stronger and try again then. I don't think i'm quite strong enough myself though. So i go around the region collecting all the rare candies i can find, then i call it a day.

My current team:

Haganehebi (Steelix) lv 49
Bluey (Gastrodon) lv 50
Yeto (Abomasnow) lv 49
Babette (Crobat) lv 51
Sunasame (Garchomp) lv 50
Kovu (Luxray) lv 51

With my training done and my preparations complete, it's time for the biggest challenge my guys have faced yet: the pokemon league. My first opponent is the bug type user, Aaron. He leads with his Yanmega while i lead with Kovu. He sets up a Double Team, but Kovu is entirely unphazed by this and kills him with a Magnet-boosted Spark. Up next is Heracross, so i switch to Babette. Fly takes out the big beetle, and Aaron follows it up with his ace, Drapion. I switch to Sunasame, but i immediately realise this was a bad idea and switch Haganehebi in on an ice fang that freezes me. He can barely hurt me though, so i just stay in until i defrost and two-shot him with dig. Haganehebi is now in red health though, so he won't be contributing much for the rest of the fight. For the Scizor that comes out next, i bring Babette back, but his iron head crits as i bring him over half with fly. i'm forced to switch in Bluey, who tanks the incoming hits with ease and surfs down the metal bug. Last is Vespiquen, for which i go back to Kovu. One Spark later, the first Elite Four member is down.

Second is the ground-type user Bertha, who has a great taste in pokemon. I can tell because she leads with the cutest pokemon of all: Whiscash. Unfortunately though, now is not the time to gush over this awesome pokemon; i sadly have to take it out. So Yeto hits a Wood Hammer to make things quick and painless. Second up is her Gliscor, and i opt to switch in Bluey for this task. He hits me with a powerful Earthquake, but i OHKO him with Surf in return. Third is Hippowdon, who gets rid of my hail and sets up a sandstorm; the perfect time to bring Sunasame out. Earthquake doesn't quite do half to him though, and he yawns me, which is bad news. I switch Babette in expecting an Earthquake, but instead i get another Yawn. I can work with this. Sunasame comes back on a resisted Stone Edge and hits a Cut to prevent the enemy from falling into healing range, while Hippowdon misses an earthquake. Not sure how a geologic phenomenon that can level cities can miss a particular pokemon, but whatever. My following earthquake does not miss, and kills the big hippo. Her ace Rhyperior is next and i go for Bluey, hoping to outspeed. I do not outspeed, and Bluey falls to an earthquake. This is very very bad. Bluey was essential for my plans against Flint and Cynthia. And of course he contributed massively throughout many other battles. So it is with a heavy heart that i switch to Yeto to avenge our fallen soldier with a Grass Knot. Her final pokemon Golem falls to the same fate, so i guess we've won.

Bluey would not have wanted us to falter right at the end, so despite our loss, we proceed on into the next chamber. Here, we face the fire type user, Flint. He starts off with his Houndoom and i with Sunasame. A Soft Sand-boosted Earthquake makes short work of the big dog though, so he immediately goes for his ace, Magmortar. I stay in and quake again, OHKOing this guy too. The same fate befalls his Rapidash, Flareon and Infernape, allowing me to grab the victory without our foes getting off a single move.

The Psychic user Will leads with his Mr. Mime, and i lead with Yeto. He unfortunately sets up a light screen before i crit my Nevermeltice-boosted 100% accurate Blizzard for the kill, and next up is Bronzong. This job goes to Sunasame, but due to the light screen my Flamethrowers only do about a quarter as he sets up calm mind. I keep battering away hoping for another crit as he sets up more calm minds, bringing him into heal range, but i simply have no damage output at this point. Bluey's spirit must be watching over us though, as i get my crit before he can use his now massive special attack to tear through my team. It's now time to deal with his Espeon, so i send out Haganehebi who resists all of its moves. Dig is a two-shot, but due to a crit from his psychic, the hail takes out Haganehebi thereafter. This is very bad. I don't think i still have a chance against Cynthia after this. I send out Kovu as Lucian goes for his Gallade; intimidate helps migitate this threat. I easily tank his Leaf Blade and bring him down to his berry, though i am now in crit range. I decide now is the time to pull out my healing items. I continuously heal Kovu as the hail chips away at the Gallade, which eventually allows me to bring him to healing range. After he heals, i heal Sunasame, then i switch to him the turn after. Sunasame doesn't have to dodge crits from Gallade's strngest moves, so he's better for this. I do opt to risk on crit to heal Kovu back up, and this backfires massively. Just that turn, Gallade gets its crit and Sunasame goes down. I send out Babette to finish this with a Fly, bringing Lucian down to his last mon, his Alakazam. I switch back to Kovu and one-shot him with a crunch.

I beat the elite four, but with only three pokemon remaining, it's doubtful whether i can get one last win. So it is with little hope that i step into the champion's chamber to greet my old friend Cynthia. She leads with her trusty Spiritomb and i with Kovu. A magnet-boosted Spark does just over half and paralyzes, but her dark pulse does almost half to me. It's a range though; my next spark does not get the kill, but Cynthia is fully paralyzed. Cynthia heals, but my next spark gets a crit, getting her right back into the red. But Cynthia doesn't give up this easily. She switches spiritomb out for her mighty Garchomp; rest in peace Sunasame. I switch Yeto into a resisted Earthquake, then i fire off a NeverMeltIce-boosted Ice Shard, but this is not enough. She heals with her berry, and flamethrowers Yeto to an early grave. Babette then comes in and tanks a Giga Impact after she brings him to the red with Fly. I kill the garchomp on its recharge turn; at least that beast is down. Spiritomb comes back and i switch to Kovu, constantly healing up as the hail does its work. Once that beast is down, it's time for Lucario. I switch Babette in once more; the only road to victory here is if none of his stone edges crit. One of them fortunately misses, allowing me to heal Kovu up. the next one crits though, so i'm now down to just a single pokemon. Kovu hits a powerful Spark and then starts constantly healing up, hoping to avoid an aura sphere crit. I get the good luck i need against the Lucario, and against the Togetic that follows i don't need luck. Its moves deal less than half to me; it actually got crits on its first to aura spheres to prove this fact. When he was out of aura spheres, i considered sparking him to take him out, but i decided it was better to keep my HP high, so i kept healing and let the hail do its work. Eventually the togekiss went down and i was at almost full health as Milotic came out. I outsped this thing and a magnet-boosted spark brought it to a sliver as it mirror coated, then the hail took it out. That means Cynthia's Roserade is next; we're both down to out last mon. I hit a Crunch that dealt over half and lowered her defense, but she brought me to a sliver and since she outspeeds, all i can do is once again heal and hope that she doesn't crit. This surprisingly worked out; after she healed, i hit another crunch to get her back down to a sliver, and i dodged one last crit as the hail took the big flower out.

We did it. The deaths of Bluey, Haganehebi, Sunasame, Yeto and Babette were not in vain. As Cynthia brings me to the hall of fame, i record the names of all my fallen warriors, so that they may never be forgotten. You did good. All of you. Rest in peace.

My current team:

Kovu (Luxray) lv 59

I'll admit, i played poorly. I had only really devised a strategy for Cynthia; i thought none of the others would pose much difficulty. I owe this victory to sheer dumb luck.

My new team will consist of Knor the Swinub, Oeuf the Togepi, Octo the Tentacool, Hana the Budew and Masato the Ralts. Before i start training them up though, i opt to take them on a sightseeing tour through the region. I start off with a visit to Lake Valor, now once again filled with water. I catch a Psyduck here ad name it Scrooge, then i head into the cave to find the legendary pokemon Uxie just hanging out. But it's ugly so i have Kovu KO it. When i pay a visit to Lake Verity next, Mesprit wisely flees at my approach. No one on my current team can learn rock climb though, so i cannot currently visit the third lake.

As i'm training my new guys up though, Knor evolves into Piloswine and then Mamoswine, so i can teach him the move i need to show my new guys the beauty of the wintry Lake Acuity. I head into the cave there and spot Uxie, but it's ugly so i knock it out. I continue my training for some time and Octo evolves into Tentacruel, but then it's time to call it a day.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:

Knor (Mamoswine) lv 35
Kovu (Luxray) lv 61
Oeuf (Togepi) lv 1
Octo (Tentacruel) lv 31
Hana (Budew) lv 5
Masato (Ralts) lv 17

As i'm training these guys up, they all evolve into their final stage: Oeuf to Togekiss, Hana to Roserade and Masato to Gallade. A lot of training later, i decide to pay a visit to my old friend professor Rowan, to show him that i have seen every single pokemon that can be registered in the pokedex he gave me. As i'm doing that though, the senile professor from Kanto wanders in. How did he get so far from home? Anyway, Rowan and i distract the guy with small talk while Rowan's assistant makes a call to Ben to tell him his granddad's wandered off again. The old guy gives me a National Dex while he's here, and asks me to go fill it up; i agree just to not upset him. No way i'm actually doing that lol.

Unfortunately, we can't stop Oak from wandering off again before his family comes to pick him up, so there's no point in me staying here either. I decide to pay a visit to the north of the region, to admire the architecture of the magnificent Snowpoint Temple. I'm stopped at the entrance as only people with permission are allowed in, but the gym leader Suzuna shows up at just the right moment to give me my permission, so i can explore freely. As i do so, i encounter and catch a wild Golbat, which i nickname Goldie. This place has some very impressive architecture, including an incredibly lifelike statue on the bottom floor. It honestly looks like it could awaken at any moment given the right prompt.

I opt to continue my training at this spot for now, so after some more training, i decide to call it a day.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:

Masato (Gallade) lv 47
Oeuf (Togekiss) lv 47
Hana (Roserade) lv 48
Kovu (Luxray) lv 61
Octo (Tentacruel) lv 48
Knor (Mamoswine) lv 48

With my training finally done, i opt to go and explore the region again. There was a section of Victory Road i was barred from entering earlier, so i opt to head down that route. Here, i run into an old friend: Mai, who's exploring this area again. We decide to travel together again for old times sake as we get lost in the caves. We stumble around together and fight a bunch of trainers, but eventually we reach the other end of the cave. Mai says she's looking for something here, so we part ways as i'm off to explore Route 224.

On this unkempt natural landscape, i make a new friend: Naminori the Floatzel. I continue exploring the wilderness until i find the same pretty rock i found last time i visited this area. It's really nice and shiny, but i get a sense that there is more to this rock than meets the eye. Can't quite figure it out though, so i'll just call it a day for now.

On a visit home, mom tells me that Frans has taken the boat from Snowpoint and is now travelling through Sakhalin - sorry, the "battle zone". I think it would be a good idea to explore that area again myself, so i fly over and take the ferry. As i'm about to board though, Cynthia comes up to me to thank me for stopping Cyrus and to reflect on his new life in the distortion world. Bitch, you killed 5 of my pokemon. i'm not talking to you. When she finally leaves, we set sail for the Fight Area.

In the fight area, i run into Frans as expected. What's less expected is that we also run into Elite Four Flint and gym leader Volkner here. They challenge us to a fight before they let us into the area's main attraction: the Battle Frontier. So i send out Kovu and Frans sends out his Staraptor as the enemies lead with Houndoom and Luxray. I get hit by a nasty Flamethrower, but Staraptor's Close Combat takes out the Houndoom in return, causing my Spark to redirect into the enemy Luxray. Luxray then hits a Thunder fang that one-shots Staraptor. In come Frans's Snorlax and Flint's Flareon. I risk gettik hit by an electric move as i switch in Octo, but nothing bad happens and i just get hit by an Overheat as Snorlax crunches Luxray to the yellow. I switch Kovu back in on a weak Thunder Fang for another intimidate as Snorlax kills the Luxray. This brings out Jolteon, and it's time for me to heal. As i do so, snorlax is hit by a double kick and a now severely weakened overheat, and he body slams to bring Flareon to the yellow. Next turn though, while i take out the Flareon, Jolteon hits a charge beam that raises its special attack. Snorlax does bring it to the yellow as Magmortar comes out, but now i'm not sure wo to target down. I decide to target Magmortar and get him into berry range as Jolteon kills Snorlax with another charge beam that again raises its special attack, but Magmortar's flame body burns me and he also hits me with a weak thunderbolt. Frans brings out his Floatzel next, who is OHKO'd by another charge beam as Magmortar hits me with a strong Thunderbolt. Frans's Heracross is next, and i decide to heal again. The enemy's special attack is getting dangerously high though; he does over half to me with a charge beam while magmortar outspeeds and ohkos heracross. Roserade then comes out, and i decide to take a risk and send out Knor. This allows Charge Beam to do nothing to me as Magmortar outspeeds and one-shots Roserade. Frans's ace Infernape comes out; as i switch back to Kovu on a flamethrower that brings me to the red, charge beam brings Infernape to the red, but he responds with a Blaze-boosted Flamethrower to kill Jolteon. After Volkner's Electivire comes out, I decide to use another full restore here as infernape crits a flamethrower to one-shot Volkner's ace. Magmortar also kills Infernape though, making this a 1v1. I outspeed and kill with Spark, earning us the victory.

With that, we've gained access to the battle frontier, which contains a bunch of new facilities in addition to the battle tower that was here when i last visited. Frans's dad apparently works here leading one of the facilities, but i'm not really interested in trying them out. Anyway, after we all part ways, some red-haired guy comes up to me, congratulates me on my victory, and tells me to come explore Stark Mountain with him. Not sure if i'll head there right away, but i'll definitely pay it a visit while exploring the island.

Before i leave town, a fiserman offers me his Super Rod; thx i guess. Anyway, i decide to head out north to Route 225. In this impressive bridge maze, i found a pool of water, so i decided to try out my new rod and landed a Gyarados. This rod really is super. So bombarded the gyarados with all the balls in my bag, but it just would not stay put, so eventually i ran out of balls and had to run. That was a bummer, but this is still a beautiful landscape to explore; i definitely recommend a visit if you're ever in the area. At the end of this hike, i stumble into the Survival Area, but there is little of note in this small town, so after a quick rest stop in the pokemon center, i progress east.

What i find there is a beautiful rugged mountainscape, perfect for rock climbing. There's even a body of water here to cool you off after all that exercise. In said body of water, i encounter and catch a Wingull, which i proceed to nickname Mine. On an island here, some guy offers to trade me his magikarp for my finneon, but i don't even have a finneon so that's not happening. At the end of the route, i decide to call it a day for now.

I press on to the deserts of Route 228. This route is an absolute pain to traverse with the constant sandstorms pelting my face, but it's not all doom and gloom, for when i throw out my Super rod, i land the cutest pokemon of all time: Whiscash. I name this cutie Kawaii, and progress on. However, these sands won't let me pass without bloodshed; a trainer here has a Delcatty that hits Octo way harder than i expected, and the sandstorm then takes both of us out. Rest in peace Octo. You weren't pivotal in any important battles, but we still value everything you did for us.

So it is with a heavy heart that i add Kawaii to the team. Kawaii, i promise i won't let you down the way i let Octo down. You'll be holding the Exp Share for a while though. I make my way through the rest of the desert, finally making it onto the jungles of route 229. Curious how a tropical rainforest and a desert can coexist so close to each other, but whatever. In the tall grass here, i encounter and catch a Roselia, which i nickname Bloem. I proceed south into a town called the Resort Area, which does seem like the perfect place for some relaxing vacation time. I go for a swim here when i'm attacked by a wild Golduck, so i quickly catch it and name it Dora so i can continue my swim. I then decide to explore town a bit, when a guy suddenly decides to just give me a villa. No way i'm saying no to a massive villa in a resort town.

While i'm looking around my new house, Frans comes in, having apparently picked up on the fact that someone just gave me this. He congratulates me on how rich this makes me, and promises to tell others about this amazing new home. Unfortunately my mom has decided to move back to Kanto since i came to the battle zone; otherwise i'd ask her to move here with me. I should probably get settled though and get to know the area a bit. So i decide to explore the route west of my new home, the naval Route 230. On these waters, i find a Sealeo, who will be named Horker and will be spending time in the box for now.

This route has a curious little island at its center, so i search the isle for items and explore the rest of the route, then i head back home to my villa and call it a day.

I hang out at my mansion for a bit, but i don't want to just sit around 24/7 so eventually i decide to head out and explore the north of the island; the area around Stark Mountain. I head up the mountainous Route 227, a beautiful landscape covered in the ashes of the volcano up north. While i'm enjoying this beauty though, i get attacked by a wild Graveler, so i run. After i've safely escaped, i find Frans and the gym leader Crasher Wake talking about what a great spot for training this is, because of its proximity to the Survival Area. After Wake heads off, Frans tells me he's heading for the Battle Frontier in the Fight Area, but i don't think i'll check that place out. Instead, i head further north and run into the red-haired guy from earlier. He tells me to meet with him in the depths of Stark Mountain, which happens to be exactly where i'm heading. Guy's looking for a special stone there, but weird guys in spacesuits have been causing trouble.

So i press on, and when i reach the mountain itself, i find that the troublemakers are none other than Team Galactic. Guess trapping their leader in an alternate dimension still wasn't enough to put this organization in the ground. They're now following the lead of Charon. Guess i should head into the mountain to see what those scumbags are planning, but before i do so, i catch a Skarmory just outside the entrance. I name it Plane, then i head on in. Inside, i find admins Mars, Jupiter and Charon along with some grunts. They apparently blame me for Cyrus's disappearance and don't believe he stayed in the distortion world of his own volition, so Mars opts to attack me. She leads with her Bronzong and i lead with Kovu. My Spark paralyzes him as he hits me with a Confuse Ray, so Kovu proceeds to hit himself as Bronzong sets up Light Screen. I hi myself again and get taken deep into the yellow by an extrasensory, so i've no choice but to switch in Masato, who easily tanks an extrasensory. My Close Combat almost gets the kill, but instead it leaves him with just a sliver, allowing him to hit a powerful Gyro Ball against my weakened defense to kill my poor soldier. I follow up with Oeuf, who avenges her comrade's death with an Aura Sphere. Last is Purugly, so Oeuf stays in and OHKOs it after it misses a Hypnosis. Last on her team is her Golbat, for which i send out Knor. Two Ice Shards do him in, granting me a hard-earned victory.

However, Jupiter gives me no time to mourn my lost soldier. She immediately challenges me to a fight, so i send out Kovu against her Bronzong. I opt to just heal up as she sets up reflect, then i heal Knor while she extrasensories. After this, i hit a few Sparks against her non-boosted defensive stat, the first of which crits. This allows for a 2HKO and prompts Jupiter to send out her ace, Skuntank. I switch to Knor for this task and he gets the two-shot, tanking a flamethrower due to his held berry. Last is Golbat, and i opt to fight flyer with flyer. Oeuf comes out and gets mean-looked while my extremespeeds don't do as much as i had hoped. Golbat can't hurt me either though, so i end up winning the war of attrition.

Following my victory, Mars and Jupiter announce that they are leaving Team Galactic, as things haven't been the same since Cyrus disappeared. Charon however has no intent of quitting, and he instead decides to make his way deeper into the volcano. So i give Masato the funeral he deserves, but i unfortunately don't have the time to mourn extensively. I need to chase after the evil guys. Masato is irreplaceable so i won't even try, but i will still bring ARMS the Geodude along, in case i need death fodder. I proceed deeper into the caves, where i meet up with Buck again; we decide to tag together for a bit. We make our way through to the back of the cave, where we corner Charon and his two remaining grunts. Charon decides to steal an important-looking stone, which he claims can summon the legendary pokemon Heatran. Just as i'm about to send out Hana to stop him though, Looker reveals his presence and arrests Charon. As the cops drag the evil leader off, Looker congratulates me on my victories over Cyrus and Cynthia, but he also reminds me that my destiny is not yet complete. I should keep traveling and doing good deeds, for my role will one day be essential in saving the world from a bigger threat than i have ever faced. We then leave the cave, but once outside, Buck decides to head back in to return the stone Charon stole to its rightful resting place.

I return to my villa for some rest, but somehow i can't shake the idea that there's still something waiting for me in Stark Mountain. So after having a chat with Buck about it at his home in the Survival Area, i head back into the mountain and sure enough, i find the legendary pokemon Heatran here. I decide to give Kawaii her battle debut, and with one swift Earthquake, she takes out the lava monster.

That night, as i lie in my bed in the most amazing house i could have hoped for, my mind turns to all of my friends who lost their lives to being me here.

Qscar the Bidoof. You did great in the early game, but you ended up losing your life due to my negligence. RIP

Barry the Combee. You were never going to amount to much, being a male combee, but we still appreciate your valiant sacrifice against Gardenia. RIP

Pinky the Shellos. You came in after we lost Qscar and were great in the Valley Windworks, but that Kadabra in the Galactic Eterna Building got the best of you. RIP

Noisy the Staravia. You werewith us from the start, and you almost singlehandedly took out Gardenia, but then we lost you to that damn Kadabra. RIP

Tateru the Machoke. You were great against Mars's Purugly as well as Maylene's Lucario, but then a stray Horn Drill ended your life prematurely. RIP

A the Unown. You gave your life so we could beat Crasher Wake. RIP

Kusagame the Torterra. You were my starter, and we went through many trials and tribulations together. You were great against Roark's team, and also played a pivotal role into Melissa and Crasher Wake. Then a random Gyarados ended up knowing Ice Fang. RIP

Kiara the Luxray. You were with us almost from the start, and we would not have beaten Melissa or Crasher Wake without you. Then a stray Psychic crit and got the drop on you. RIP

Mimi the Buneary. You were to take Kusagame's place, but you died during training. RIP

Melman the Girafarig. You weren't with us for long, but we still appreciate what you did for us before that Graveler blew up on you. RIP

Takeshi the Graveler. You joined us all the way back in Oreburgh and were pivotal against Roark, as well as in the many fights against Frans. Then you lost your life because i misremembered a type matchup. You started to fall off towards the end, but that does not mean you deserved this fate. RIP

Ghoti the Magikarp. You valiantly sacrificed your life to let us beat Suzuna. RIP

Buis the Floatzel. You joined us after that disastrous encounter with Kadabra, and were key against Byron and Suzuna, dodging all those crits from Froslass. Then a Hiker killed you in cold blood as we were looking to stop Cyrus. RIP

Biden the Rampardos. You came in to replace Takeshi, but you never really came into your own. Still, we value your sacrifice against Cyrus to save the world from distortion. RIP

Vishnu the Medicham. You joined us after Tateru's passing to serve as our resident fighting type, and you performed great in that role. You were the physical powerhouse of the team, and you smashed through Byron's steel types. You were also pivotal into Suzuna and her evasive shenanigans, and you were of great help stopping Cyrus. You also showed your worth against Volkner, even if that fight cost you your life. RIP

Brock the Geodude. Your sacrifice allowed us to beat Volkner. RIP

Bluey the Gastrodon. You joined us after Buis died and filled his role admirably. You were especially good into Cyrus and Elite Four Bertha, even if you ended up going down against the latter. RIP

Yeto the Abomasnow. Coming in after Vishnu's death, you had big shoes to fill, but you filled them well. Without your hail, we would not have beaten Cynthia. RIP

Haganehebi the Steelix. After Melman died, you came to add your strength to our team. Your contributions against Suzuna and Volkner will not be forgotten, nor will your sacrifice against Lucian. RIP

Babette the Crobat. You were with us for almost the entire journey, becoming our resident flyer after the Kadabra incident. You were especially good versus Fantina and Maylene, and played important roles in too many other battles to recount. You also performed great in the League, being the last to die and allowing me and Kovu to grab the title of Champion. RIP

Sunasame the Garchomp. You joined us just after we trapped Cyrus in the distortion world, and you singlehandedly one-shot sweeped all of Flint's team. Unfortunately, the very next battle proved too tough. RIP

Octo the Tentacruel. You joined us after the league and did not play an important role in any major battle, but we value your contributions regardless. RIP

Masato the Gallade. You came in after we beat the league and gave your life to stop the remnants of Team Galactic. RIP.

And with that, i fall asleep, dreaming about the possible adventures i might go on tomorrow.

Chapter 17: Let's Go Eevee

Rules for this game will be as follows:
  1. The first pokemon i see when entering an area will be my encounter for that area, except if i cannot reach that pokemon yet due to HMs required.

First time i'm playing this game since 2018 (and probably last time overall), so i'm honestly a bit hazy on how the mechanics worked. Also don't really remember the story changes, so some rival fights might get me by surprise.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been living it up in my villa by myself for several months now, but it's getting a bit lonely. I know my mother would love it here too, but she's all the way in distant Kanto. I can't quite convey over the phone how great life is here, so i guess i'm gonna have to just visit her in person.

So i fly over to Sapporo and from there take the train to Pallet Town. My pokemon can stay behind in my mansion; this'll only e a short trip, after all. As i leave the train station and head towards my mom's residence, i run into one of the local kids, a guy called Bas. Guy's about to receive his first pokemon and go on a pokemon journey of his own. I remember my first pokemon journey, all the way back in Britain. So many adventures, so many friends made along the way. Bas is gonna have a great time traveling the world, i'm sue of it. Anyway, i head to my mom's home and show her pictures of my fancy villa; she says she'll give it some thought.

Since i'm in Pallet Town anyway, i decide to pay a visit to Professor Oak. He's not in his lab; guy wandered off to Route 1, where he's talking to some pidgey. He actually does recognize me to my surprise, but he seems confused about why i'm here and thinks that like Bas, i'm also starting my pokemon journey today. Just then, an Eevee jumps out of the grass and attacks me; i have no pokemon or poke balls on me, but luckily the professor does, and he helps me catch the cute little guy. My poke ball seems to have a life of its own though, and it rushes back to the professor's lab. We give chase and the ball takes place among the pokemon meant for new trainers; i guess this Eevee is desparate to go on a pokemon journey. I try to take the ball when Eevee suddenly leaves it; it does not like being inside a ball. Reminds me of Arme Nana, the Pikachu that traveled with me when i first visited this region. I nickname the little guy Buikun while Bas chooses a Pikachu as his starter.

Oak gives me and Bas a pokedex each; no matter how much i try to explain that i'm not a new trainer, he insists that i am and that i should get all the gear he always gives to new trainers. I guess dementia will do that to a man. So i leave the lab with an Eevee, a pokedex and 50 poke balls. Outside, i run into my mom, who tells me she has decided to move into my villa in the Resort Area. I'm not sure i'll be headingback immediately though; Buikun is kinda cute and i don't want to dash its dreams of going on a journey. I guess i'll head over to the next town to see if someone there will take care of him. My mom hands me a town map so i don't get lost along the way; i never needed these in my past Kanto journeys, but thanks anyway. So i head onto Route 1 and catch a Rattata, which i nickname Mickey.

At the end of the route, i arrive in Viridian City, where i ask around whether someone is willing to take this Eevee off my hands. I unfortunately find no one, but at the mart i do meet a guy who needs something delivered to professor oak in Pallet Town. Oak obviously cannot come here; he'll get lost along the way. Screw that though; i'm not your errand girl. go deliver it yourself. I decide to go on a trip to Route 22 to show Buikun the Pokemon League entrance gates; the end point of any pokemon journey through this region. Along the way, i find and catch a Spearow, which i nickname Birdyman. We head all the way up to the checkpoint for the Boulderbadge; shame i left my Kanto badges back home.

I can't find anyone in Cerulean who wants to take this cute little guy on a journey, so i decide to head north. The path is blocked though, by none other than Team Rocket's Jessie and James. I wonder what they're up to now that Team Rocket has been disbanded, but i'm willing to wager it's nothing good. So anyway, there's no other direction to go than south; might as well take Oak's package with me along the way. When i reach Oak's lab and hand him the package, i find that Bas is there as well. He challenges me to a fight, and i comply. Two tackles from Buikun fell his Pikachu; this guy is way stronger than your average Eevee. You know what, i think i'll take the guy on a journey myself. It's been a while since i traveled Kanto; it'll be interesting to see how things have changed.

So me and Buikun travel back north. When i reach Viridian again, i run into Bas there, who tells me how pokemon centers work. Thx, but i already knew that. We travel north from Viridian, where Queen the Weedle joins the team. Not sure i'm quite strong enough to make the trek through Viridian Forest though, so i head back to Route 22 with the intent of doing some training. Before i can get started though, i run into Bas again, who demands a rematch. I comply and lead with Birdyman while he leads with a Pidgey. Peck three-shots him while he does little to me, so he goes down. Next up though is Ben's starter Pikachu, so i send out Buikun. Quick Attacks make short work of the electric rat, and victory is mine.

Considering how easy this was, it's probably safe to trek through the forest without additional training. In the forest, i catch an additional Weedle; this one shall bear the name Worker. We stumble around aimlessly here for some time looking for the other way out, but eventually Buikun spots the gatehouse leading to Pewter City and leads me to it. In this quaint little town, i run into Bas again, who tells me that the gym leader in this town is really really strong. I've fought Brock before and he's not all that tough compared to other leaders, but given my current team, i think i'll take this warning to heart and train my guys up before i challenge him.

So i go on a catching spree, but the mons i catch are all ugly so i release them immediately. As i'm doing so though, Queen and Worker evolve into their second stage, Kakuna. After i'm done catching for now, i decide to call it a day.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:

Buikun (Partner Eevee) lv 11
Birdyman (Spearow) lv 8
Mickey (Rattata) lv 8
Queen (Kakuna) lv 7
Worker (Kakuna) lv 8

Due to the nature of boxes in this game, i can't maintain a graveyard box so there will be no eulogies at the end of this journey.

I feel like my guys have trained up enough, so Buikun and i head into the gym. This is a rock gym, but i have only 5 mons so it would make no sense for someone to sit this one out. In order to enter the gym though, you need to have a grass pokemon, so i show the guy a bellsprout i caught south of town. However, i then take a look at my bellsprout and realise that it's ugly, so i release it immediately. Brock's not a fan of gym puzzles, so i just beat up his trainers and then challenge the man himself. He leads with Geodude and i allow Buikun to take on his first gym. A few Double Kicks make short work of the rock as i easily tank a Tackle. so brock sends out his Onix. This one isn't much more difficult; two Double Kicks bring me the victory. And just like that, Buikun and i have obtained our first badge together.

Upon leaving the gym, I run into a familiar face: it's none other than Ben, my rival from when i first traveled through Kanto. We catch up on everything that's been going on; he tells me that he has once again left his position as gym leader to do some training. He doesn't know who currently runs Viridian Gym though. He is sad to hear that his grandpa thought i was a fresh trainer; it's really painful to see a family member deal with dementia. We both have things to do though, so we head our separate ways.

While we're in Pewter, i might as well show Buikun the magnificent Pewter Museum of Science. Here, we admire the various fossils and the weirdly out-of-place spaceship model. I really don't get why a museum would have both. The fossils are fascinating though; one can't help but wonder about a time when Omanyte and Aerodactyl walked this earth. But i guess we have a journey to continue, so i leave town and head east onto Route 3. On this ledge route, i catch a second Spearow and name it Burkina Faso. I quickly head on though, making a quick stop in the pokemon center at the entrance of Mt. Moon. There's a guy selling karp here; they're not too expensive, so i figure i might as well. It'll be named Ariel and it's replacing Burkina Faso on the team.

In the bowels of the mountain, i spot Jessie and James again; they're apparently looking for fossils here. I guess there's nothing wrong with that. I try to catch a wild Zubat i find here, but unfortunately it gets away. I continue exploring and beating trainers when Worker evolves into its final stage, Beedrill. As i explore the caves further though, i run into Team Rocket grunts; guess the organization is back together. Seriously, how often do i have to put that group in the ground before they finally stay dead? This also explains why Jessie and James are here; they're once again working for the mafia. Searching for fossils isn't illegal though, so i've no qualms with what they're doing here. I just beat up any grunts i find and progress through the caves. Along the way, Queen also evolves into Beedrill. Further on, i run into two fossils, but a Super Nerd found them first and wishes to claim both of them. That's super greedy, so i beat him up and take one of his fossils. I of course go for out lord and saviour the Helix Fossil.

As i'm leaving te cave though, Jessie and James block my path and demand i give them that fossil. Trying to fight someone for a fossil they got fair and square is not cool, so i of course resist. I lead with Birdyman and Buikun as they send out their Ekans and Koffing. My guys team up on Ekans and bring him to the yellow while we tank some weak hits, then i have Buikun attack the Koffing as Birdyman finishes the Ekans off. It's now a 2v1, so my guys team up on koffing and get the win. They fuck off, and it isn't long before Buikun helps me spot the exit to this cave system.

This leads us onto Route 4, which i traverse with no difficulty, catching a Rattata along the way. I name this one Minnie. I proceed onward to Cerulean, where a water fountain grabs Buikun's attention. I drop some cash down the fountain and make a wish that me and Buikun will succeed in conquering this region together. I then make a stop in the pokemon center, where a girl asks me to trade my Rattata for a hawaiian Rattata. I accept and trade away the newly caught Minnie for a foreign rat. Out of respect for its original owner though, i decide not to give this new guy a nickname, though he will be taking Queen's place on the team. When i enter the gym though, i am told i need a pokemon of at least level 15 in order to challenge it. Buikun is level 15, but since he's the only one that meets the requirement, i decide to forgo the gym for now.

So me and Buikun explore town further, finding that the bike shop won't sell us a bike. Eh, i prefer to walk anyway. When i decide to make my way north, i run into none other than Bas. He seems to be upset about something, but i've no chance to say anything before he challenges me to a fight. He leads with his Pidgey and i lead with my new Rattata. Bite flinches him, allowing me an easy two-shot. Second is Oddish, so i switch to Birdyman and peck him into the ground as he poisons me and brings me to half. Last is his ace, Pikachu, for which i send out Worker. Pikachu sets up a bunch of Double Teams though, causing my Twineedles to miss a lot. This ends up not mattering though, as i kill him just after he brings me into crit range. After the fight, Bas calms down enough to tell me what's going on; he paid a visit to Bill's cabin, but he only found a weird pokemon there. Guess Bill's been doing his experiments again. Anyway, i beat up the trainers on the bridge and catch Rocket the Meowth in the grass next to it, then it's time to call it a day.
