Pokémon and BOSS coffee collab for TCG-inspired merch, including “evolving” Fuecoco jacket

The Japanese coffee brand BOSS has announced a collaboration with The Pokémon Company, debuting their new Pokémon Trading Card Game-themed cans and other merchandise coming exclusively to Japan. There will a selection different coffee can designs, based on 15 different Pokémon cards and two Pokémon coins, coming to retailers across the country beginning February 4th, however the merch will be a little harder for fans to get their hands on.

The can designs include ones based on Pikachu and Eevee Coins originally released in 2020. The Eevee was released in multiple colors, with one of nine randomly included in playmat and coin sets given away with the purchase of any two V Starter Decks in one transaction at participating stores from July 10, 2020. This White color in particular was meant to represent colorless Pokémon. The Pikachu coin meanwhile came out later that year as part of the Pokémon Card Game ZOZOTOWN Collection.

The remaining can designs include images of the following 15 cards:

Two kinds of merchandise will be up for grabs for customers in Japan; there will be nine different TCG-inspired pillows and an “evolving” Fuecoco jacket, which can be transformed twice into a Crocolor and then a Skeledirge style. Both the pillows and the jacket will be distributed via a lottery system. Customers can enter the lottery by scanning the QR code on Pokémon-themed BOSS products starting February 3rd and ending June 6th of this year. Customers who scan a 6-pack of coffee will be entered to be one of 3,000 randomly selected winners for the Fuecoco jacket. Customers who scan single cans can be one of 1,500 winners who will receive a TCG pillow, and another 98,500 entrants will receive ¥10 (~.06¢ USD) to their PayPal account.

Though BOSS coffee is available in the US, Australia, and New Zealand, unfortunately there seems to be no plans at this time for either the TCG-themed cans or merchandise to be released outside of Japan.
