LT's Brainstorming Blog

@LightningTopaz
Wow. That is cool. Sure it's bland to look at currently, but as you said, it's a work in progress. Maybe theme the background to Zelda? I'm sure you do have plans for that.

Edit: Here is what you can do about the background: have it be like the entrance to a generic dungeon to represent the fact this is a dungeon name generator.

If I can find a background or figure out how to put one on, I will. For now, my priority is to continue expanding the generator's vocabulary, so you can get a nice variety of names.

UPDATE: I FINALLY found a good dungeon background that makes the outputs still readable.

Why the Ancient Cistern of all dungeons, though?

Minstrels Seeking Pearls Idea (inspired by Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles)

In the fantastic Pokeworld of Vallona, it is not unheard of to see minstrels traveling on the road. Groups of minstrels may travel in caravans with their instruments and their belongings. Particularly large groups may even have the capability of bringing mythology, legends, history, and folklore to life as plays.

Our story concerns a group of best friends who travel together in a caravan--Ash and Serena of Biancavilla, Brock of Argenta, and Misty of Azuria. one day, as they traveled to another town, Brock spotted a pearl embedded in the road. Figuring it was a noble's treasure, they decided to hold onto it, and ask around to see who had lost the beautiful jewel. Things got complicated as they kept finding more pearls, often in unexpected places or locations.

Then Serena remembered a tale from her adopted home of Beltaire, which told of a hero that defeated a dragon with the power of sacred pearls--so was it possible that Vallonan lore also had a version of that tale?

Our four heroes discovered that Vallona did have some version of that tale--but it was unfinished, with no ending at all.

So the four friends decided to keep following the pearls and finally give an old story the ending it deserved...

Thoughts on an Adventure of the Week Series (some preliminary ideas)

In the fantastic Pokeworld of Vardene, four best friends stand out among all the other aspiring heroes--the warmage Ash and the runeblade Serena from the town of Summerford, the minstrel Brock from the mountain town of Ambergrove, and the magic knight Misty, from the seaside city of Pearlbrooke. Together, the four of them make a living as heroes for hire, using the castle of Hopeshire Keep as their home base.

For these heroes, no request is too big or small--they will happily chase off bandits, or slay the mightiest dragons for a reasonable fee. If someone can't pay with money, they will accept food, goods, or information as their fee. Even King Felix and Queen Loria, as well as Prince Dorian, Princess Miranda, and others in the royal court have asked our heroes for help.

But for our heroes, the glory, treasure and honor aren't why they adventure. They desire to see Vardene free from the clutches of evil, in whatever form evil may take.

What follows is a collection of the group's adventures, taken from the stories and ballads Brock has written about their adventures...

PErhaps they are part of an adventurer's guild? That way you can EASILY justify them doing all of these quests.

@Greninjaman

I chose to go the heroes for hire route because I felt it would be easier to focus on the adventures and worldbuilding. But maybe they do work together with the local adventurer's guild if they need a reliable source for jobs.
How would it be easier to do the heroes for hire route as opposed to working for a guild?

Jewel Creating Adventure Idea (some thoughts inspired by the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom)

--The rod/staff wouldn't so much make copies of things as much as manifest jewels--said jewels could then burst into a spell, manifest as a weapon, armor or other item (like instruments), or conjure an appropriate Pokemon (so a ruby would manifest as a Fire type, for example) You couldn't get a fully evolved Pokemon from the get go--you had to start with the first stage, and then have it go through its natural evolution progression. Those that evolved through other means would also be adapted to evolve by level.

--If you needed a specific spell or item, you would name what it was you wanted before using the rod.

--Spells could evolve as you used them more often, or by stacking multiple copies of the same spell

Here's an idea to go along with this: What was Link's journey like up to that point in the trailer? After all, that certainly felt like a final battle. What happened? What did Link have to do to GET to Ganon?
